Attainment of mammalian reproductive capacity depends on an increased pulsatile release of gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) from hypothalamus neurons. After reaching the pituitary gland GnRH stimulates the synthesis and release of gonadotropins, which in turn promote gonadal function.
